This is one of the first projects I did to my 98 XJ. I decided I needed good tow points above everything else in preparing the Jeep for off-roading. These tow hook brackets from Custom 4x4 Fabrication, should provide me with a great tow point in the front for when I get in-to-deep. I chose the Custom 4x4 Fabrication brackets because they were recommended to me over the stock bracket and tow hooks.
Tools Required:
Ratchet wrench, T50 Torx Bit, all hardware that came with the brackets.
Project Time:
2 Hours with a couple of breaks.
Purchase Information:
I purchased the hitch on 5/1/2002 from Custom 4x4 Fabrication. I also picked up a 50' Recovery Strap which is discounted when ordered in combination with the brackets and hooks. Shipping from Oklahoma to here was about $9. Custom 4x4 Fabrication was very timely and I had the brackets within a week of ordering from the web.
1) First thing you need to do is remove the front bumper. Start by pulling back the plastic molding that comes
down from the wheel well. This will reveal two 10mm (I think) screws per side. Remove those four screws which help
attach the plastic end caps on the stock bumper. Next, remove the four bolts attaching the bottom of the bumper. Two of the
four are T-50 Torx bolts. Now would be a good time to pull out the vacuum hose connecting your vacuum canister which
is mounted inside the bumper. Last thing you need to remove is the Torx bolts attaching the top of the bumper. To
get to these pull back the plastic end-caps (if you haven't removed them already) and you should see the two Torx
bolts that need to be removed.

2) Remove the factory front bumper bracket by removing the 3 bolts (per side) holding the bracket.
You may want to do one side at a time so that you can see how the other bracket is angled during re-installation.
3) With the bumper & bracket off, you can now install the Custom 4x4 angle bracket.

4) And now install the tow hook bracket (don't forget to reattach the factory bumper bracket.) You can attach
the tow hooks now unless you have the air dam on the factory bumper still. If this is the case then loosely attach
the rear most bolt of the hook so that it may swivel while you are reinstalling the bumper.
Reinstall the front bumper and don't forget to reattach your vacuum canister.
This was a very easy install altogether and all I needed was hand tools and a little time (and patience.)
